Shielding
There is some confusion relating to the distribution of letters and food package to people with medical conditions that put them at high risk should they contract Covid-19
This project is known as “Shielding” and identified people are on a “Shielding List”
The “Shielding List” is produced by Central Government and the NHS

People who are on the “Shielding List” are getting letters in cohorts, starting with the most vulnerable.  The first cohort should have all had letters and Central Government is now issuing letters to the second cohort.

When a shielded person gets a letter, they need to log onto the gov.uk website as instructed in the letter and complete the form on-line (there is also a telephone number available in the letter) if they would like to receive the food package delivery.

We understand that people who have received letters are receiving their first package on average 7 days after filling the form in on-line or registering via the phone number.  If they don’t register, they will not receive a food package.
If a people has not yet received a letter and thinks they should be on the “Shielding List” they need to have a conversation with their GP who can add them onto the “Shielding List”.  It’s not clear when they will get a letter after the GP has registered them.
The food package deliveries are being completed by a number of providers contracted by Central Government.  It’s not clear which companies are delivering in which areas.

Issuing letters and food packages is all being co-ordinated Centrally Government not Locally Government but Local Government will get data on progress. If people who receive letters do not respond the Local Authority may ask the Leyburn and District CSO Hub to investigate. If people who do receive letters are having difficulty with the required forms, they may ask local volunteers to help.
It is not clear how often the food packages will be delivered but for the time being we need to try to ensure that the letter and the first food package process is completed successfully.
